BIOGRAPHY
Scottish songwriter Simon Michaels, born Simon Donaldson in Edinburgh 1969, first started songwriting when he started to play the guitar age 14. When his first band recorded in a professional studio he was so inspired by the process he set out to make songwriting and recording his career.
RCA Records in London were the first record label to sense something in the young Simon when their A&R rep heard 'Place In your Heart'.
Sleeping Giant Music International publishing in London signed 'World Don't Turn' . It was passed to Michael Bolton's management. Through this agreement Simon met fellow Scottish songwriter and musician Al James.
Sinus Musikverlag publishing in Berlin signed 'Love Is A River' and 'River's Edge'.
Peter Knight, who now owns Catalyst Music Publishing in London, came to watch Simon perform live in the famous 12 Bar Club on Denmark Street in London and offered a pitch & plug agreement for 'Halcyon Days'.
Tony Peters of Acuff-Rose Music Publishing in London was the first publisher to send Simon to Nashville, USA to meet up with some of the Acuff-Rose staff writers there. This would be Simon's introduction to country songwriting and collaborating with published songwriters.
ASCAP's Ralph Murphy introduced Simon to Steve Bloch of Southern Cow Music Publishing who offered pitch & plug agreements on 'Satellite' and 'Numb'. He hooked Simon up with 2 of his staff writers Calvin Davidson and Grant Lindsay.
One of Peter Knight's contacts David Kastle of Newkastle Entertainment & Killen Music Group (KMG) was the first to offer a full publishing contract after hearing Simon's third self produced solo album 'Touched By Angels'. David hooked Simon up with the late Jonnie Barnett (who was then country #1 with his co-write 'The Chain of Love' by Clay Walker). Along with Butch Dillon they
co-wrote 'Tongue'. David introduced Simon to Trey Matthews the result 'Remember Me'.
Nashville record producer Frank Liddell liked Simon's song 'Black Irish Rose' so much he invited him to audition at Decca Records, Nashville before leaving to set up Carnival Music on Music Row.
In Nashville Simon met Canadian singer/songwriter Steve Fox who invited him to sit in on recording sessions for his album 'Small World'. There he met Nashville session guitarist
Gary Thorsen with whom he formed a strong songwriting partnership.
Simon's self produced 3rd & 4th albums 'Touched By Angels' & 'Risky Business' were recorded in Scotland but mixed and mastered by County Q Productions in Nashville, Tennessee.
